Baby Hare
Illustrated stained glass
Christian here: this was a particularly special make, I’ve very recently become an uncle for the first time. I wanted to give her a welcome-to-Earth gift that felt worthwhile, so this is what I came up with. Our surname, Harrop, translates to Hare-on-the-Hill in Old English so I wanted to do a baby hare for the baby Harrop, surrounded by November foliage and her initials. Glass painting was still a skill I was honing down so there were things that did and didn’t work, but I think that makes it all the better as one of my first ambitious glass pieces being a keepsake for my niece. Given that stained glass inherently involves lead as well, I made sure to fix it into a wooden frame and use as few glass pieces as necessary for the piece, I’ve also fixed LEDs to the back of the frame so that it could hang on a wall as well, nicely out of reach. A lot of fun tests went on here! Anyway I’m very proud of this and hope that one day my niece appreciates it too!
